A Prayer for Christmas Eve

Spirit of Light and Dark, God of all and holy presence within us,

In this Christmas season we contemplate that from darkness great hope was born.

From the shadows, a light so bright shone into the world. A light that brought peace, love and hope into the hearts of humanity.

Help us to understand and embrace the darkness. Help us make room for that silence in which something…something unknown… is waiting to be born in each of us.

Let darkness teach us that we do not need to be afraid, that we too can be transformed by it, and that the darkness is a sacred space, full of mystery and wonder.

Help us to be patient, as we wait for the light that is to come. For we learn again and again that only by embracing the darkness, may we truly understand the blessings of light.

We are not alone, for we carry the divine spark of love with us everywhere we go. May this spark steady our journey as we slowly, but inevitably, move toward the light.

May it be so, Amen.
